Voim: the concept of a smartphone for the Blind

Voim: the concept of a smartphone for the Blind
What a coincidence: with an interesting concept navigator for the blind, this week there was news about a similar smartphone clamshell for the same audience, that is, people with lost or severely impaired. That should not be detached from technological progress. In the end, any phone lets you listen to radio, music and chat with friends, voice.
Voim: the concept of a smartphone for the Blind

Conceived with the name Voim developed in South Korea, two designers and has a special screen that can create an image with changing the volume elements. As well as a miniature (with the mind - over the top, I think, the designers failed to comply with the proportions and the headset fits in the ear except that the child) Bluetooth-headset, which is hidden in the unit. And the camera, which is proposed to be used to read texts and identify the images. Snapshot recognized and translated into Braille, and advanced voice capabilities, I think, will read text aloud. And the authors suggest to wear the unit on a camera around his neck forward, which will be used for navigation and using voice messages to prompt the owner Voim where to go, where the roll and so on.

SWAP Rebel: phone-watch for £ 200

SWAP Rebel: phone-watch for £ 200
Perhaps the phone in a wristwatch, and now especially one not surprised - to be released and the industrious Chinese manufacturers and more impressive - the same Samsung and LG. But those hours of SWAP (Incidentally, the abbreviation, which in Russian means clever clocks and telephones) entitled Rebel (rebel) are not so expensive, have a good appearance, menus in Russian (yes), and 5 color options.
SWAP Rebel: phone-watch for £ 200

Features hours of more than modest, but such is the fate of gadgets such class: the place is extremely small, no display, no capacious battery put in them is simply nowhere. But users of these hours may well feel like a hero fiction novel. Anyway, in my childhood, communicators 21 centuries seemed just that - a clock, equipped with mobile phones, camera and voice recorder.
SWAP Rebel: phone-watch for £ 200
So, SWAP Rebel 1.5-inch touch screen with a resolution 176h132 point, built-in camera with VGA resolution and the possibility of a modest recording and built-in battery with 240 mAh for up to 2 hours of talk time (be recharged every night). Inside there is a 128 MB memory and microSD card capacity of 2 gigabytes (expandable to 8 GB). Weigh such watch 65 grams and can be easily connected to a PC via USB-contact, placed right at the end of the strap.
SWAP Rebel: phone-watch for £ 200
Producer talks about the address book for 500 numbers, calendar, calculator, file manager, radio and even the program for reading electronic books (his eyes would not break). Clocks can be ordered on the UK Amazon - there they are worth 200 pounds.

"Mouthwatering" concept. Phone-sandwich (Sandwich Phone) from designer Yongvu Kim (Yeongwoo Kim)

Multi-functional and multi-layered Sandwich Phone
When a person is hungry, but he can not decide exactly what he wants, and time for cooking, it has little, the answer comes by itself: a multilayer sandwich, where to put the sausage and bread and cheese, and vegetables, and herbs. Quick, tasty and nutritious. Is that not too useful, but now it's not about that. Multi-layer sandwich gives him a lot of advantages over other food, so it is not surprising that designers wanting to fit in a lot of gadgets, a variety of functions, gradually come to a multi-gadget sandwiches. Such as the Sandwich Phone from designer Yongvu Kim (Yeongwoo Kim).

This unusual phone called the "sandwich", but it also looked like and a small notebook, since all the layers of the device, whatever their number was turned over the pages in a notebook or book. So, on separate "pages" designer brought as the phone itself, as well as the most popular applications, such as mp3-player and fotovideokamera. And in the "spine" mobile phone built-in speaker, rechargeable battery and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The screen on the phone-sandwich, of course, the touch.

How useful would such a device for multipurpose gadget lovers and those who take it upon myself to realize the concept - the question is, of course, interesting and very complex. However, the designer believes that such a Sandwich Phone will help to bring order to the phone, and so save time to users. And while we know money.

BlackBerry Empathy design concept feels bad that you're stuck using a BlackBerry

Rest easy, folks: we know it's pointy at the bottom, but we've been assured this isn't the BlackBerry 7100's true successor. Instead, the so-called Empathy is the bizarre outcome of of a RIM-sponsored design project at the Art Center College of Design that touts its ability to detect the emotions of its user and his or her contacts. It's not exactly clear how it'd do that, but one crucial element is the biometric feedback ring that communicates your frustration at the phone's inability to properly sync IMAP accounts in real time. All of this anger and joy is displayed on a social map -- colored rings indicate your contacts' previous and current emotional states -- which is presented on a full touchscreen that can become transparent when the phone's not in use. Prefer the Bold to the Storm, do you? Turn the phone around, and boom, you've got one of the scariest looking portrait QWERTY keyboards the world has ever seen. We don't really anticipate seeing this chiseled slab of bleeding-heart technology in RIM's lineup any time soon... but we can definitely see the benefit to knowing when your BBM contacts are ready to put a fist through a wall. Follow the break for video.

MeeGo 1.1 available to developers netbooks, smartphones and navigators

MeeGo1_1_00.jpg
Editorial gg continues to monitor the development of the operating system MeeGo, Nokia and Intel announced during the exhibition MWC 2010. Nokia itself puts great hopes on it, but until the process is slow and somewhat resembles the situation with Windows Phone 7. That is, information noise, like, there's a sense (at least not yet) no. Release version 2.1 is now available for developers with a beta version of SDK.
Screenshots for netbooks do not differ from those that we saw back in the summer, so bring them here does not make sense. Innovations have touched smartphones - the developers say the new elements for the calls, send SMS, web browser, connectivity management, music and video playback, and viewing photos.
MeeGo version 1.1 contains the kernel of Linux 2.6.35, X.org server version 1.9.0, Web Runtime, Qt 4.7 and Qt Mobility 1.0.2. New screenshots have appeared for navigators, or In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) - title can be translated as automotive devices to access information and entertainment resources. In fact this is exactly navigators with the ability to connect to the Internet, play music and videos, view pictures (possibly video).
The 1.1 Core OS provides a complete set of enabling technologies for mobile computing. The MeeGo stack contains Linux Kernel,, Web Runtime, Qt 4.7 and Qt Mobility 1.0.2 supporting the contacts, location, messaging, multimedia, sensor and service frameworks. It also includes a number of leading edge components such as the oFono telephony stack, the ConnMan connection manager, the Tracker data indexer, the Telepathy real-time communications framework, the Buteo sync framework and many more.
The next version 2.2 should appear in April 2011 and include a complete (hopefully) a set of applications for phones. Maybe by this time should expect announcements (unlikely sales) of the first devices to MeeGo.

Second Life: one clear concept phone with two types of screens

SecondLife01.jpg
Looks like this idea a little too fantastic even for the concept. The authors offer a simple reminder about charging the phone - switch the "ordinary» AMOLED-display in monochrome mode screen technology with E-Ink.
This is a monochrome mode is used for power saving mode of the phone. We can only guess when it's the interesting times in which the electronic filling system, including the battery, can be done either transparent or so small that they can hide the navigation button to the device. But it looks like the device in the picture is certainly beautiful....
